Maybe it's because I've been watching Project Runway and obsessing over finalist Kenley Collins' cute headbands and flowered hair pins, which have this fun, cheeky 1920s pin-up girl quality or maybe even that of a 1940s or 1950s Vargas girl, but I can't help but be smitten with these stunning headbands by Pas Comme Les Moutons, a new line created by Amee Carter and Sabrina Bacon. Made by hand, each headband is produced in a limited run and features
unique embellishments such as silk, chiffon, and satin rosettes,
layered velvet pleats, spotted feathers, metal studs, clear gemstones,
beaded appliqués in leaf and flower patterns, Swarovski crystals, and
sew-on stones, for a free-spirited and romantic effect that still
manages to ooze sophistication.
These gorgeous pieces of hair candy are sold at Owl's Lab, one of my favorite New York City stores and online boutiques. Ashley Thompson, Owl's Lab's fabulous owner, says when the P.C.M. designers approached her about carrying the designs, she was more than eager to entertain the idea. Says Thompson, "They sit well with our current fall collection, which has a "bohemian preppy" style. On a personal note, I love the feather collection, but the rose headbands happen to be more popular in the store." Thompson herself is a huge fan of the carefully crafted accessories. "Each piece is so special that it's extremely hard to choose one," she confesses. "I wore them during Fashion Week a lot!"
The headbands have been popping up on many a celebrity tête — they've already been featured on hit, trendy shows like Gossip Girl (Leighton Meester and Blake Lively both donned some of these glamorous designs) and 90210, and Ciara and Katy Perry have ordered their own goodies (yes, that was a lame pun-based reference to Ciara's debut song).
The feather headband pictured above is called "Goldie Luxxe" (clever, right) and it features pyramid-shaped gold metal studs and a mix of beige, copper, sepia, and rust-colored feathers. Put them on, and you'll feel like Pocahontas-meets-1920s-flapper-meets flower-child. My absolute favorite, though, is the "Ursula" headband pictured above, which features silk rosettes in a rich amethyst hue, as well as turquoise and black stone beads. I tried this one on and my 4-year-old son just looked at me and said, "Mommy, you're a princess." And who am I to argue with my little genius?!
So if you want to look like a pretty princess too, go check out the great selection of Pas Comme Les Moutons pieces at Owl's Lab!
