Though New York City was temporarily paralyzed as a result of Hurricane Irene, for many, it's business as usual a mere day after the storm — albeit having to grapple with subway service interruptions, flooded streets, and streets closed due to uprooted trees. Patience isn't a virtue most New Yorkers possess (this is, after all, the City that Never Sleeps), so government and city employees have been laboring around the clock to restore the city to a state of complete normalcy. And, given how quickly they've been working, chances are, by next week, the city will look so resplendent, you'd think it was wearing its Sunday Best.
The timing, of course, couldn't be better given that Fashion Week kicks off next week and, the night before its official launch, the entire city will be bustlin' as fashion lovers, beauty hounds, and scenesters roam the streets, working their way from one venue to the next as part of this year's Fashion's Night Out festivities.
A collaboration between CFDA, Vogue, New York & Company, and the City of New York, Fashion’s Night Out consists of an entire evening aimed at celebrating the fashion industry; toasting the consumers that keep retailers in business via special discounts, raffles, in-store activities and promotions, cocktails, celebrity appearances, and special treats; and boost sales within the industry. In New York City alone, over 1,000 retailers are participating in Fashion's Night Out, which is taking place on September 8th. The listing of events can feel a bit overwhelming, so we'll be helping you plan your itinerary by bringing you our top FNO picks — just stay tuned for the details!
In the meantime, get in the spirit with one of the pieces from this year's Fashion's Night Out collection of apparel and accessories. Forty percent of proceeds raised from sales will go to the New York City AIDS Fund in the New York Community Trust, so you'll feel all the more rewarded by your purchase.
Among this year's offerings, you'll find the Fashion's Night Out Tote ($50 at Shopbop.com), a 14"-tall, 17"-long canvas tote featuring the official FNO logo, with its black letters featuring an abstract cityscape. The tote is available in three color options including black canvas with hot pink nylon shoulder straps and beige canvas with brown leather straps.
If you want to help the cause without going for something so overtly branded, check out the Fashion's Night Out Printed Short-Sleeved T-Shirt ($40 at Shopbop.com), an abstract, slightly tribal-flavored, scoop-necked, short-sleeved jersey tee in a bold purple, fluorescent aqua, and black colorway, with the FNO logo printed at the hip. Or, in preparation of the chillier weather ahead, opt for the Fashion's Night Out Printed Long-Sleeve Tee ($45 at Shopbop.com), a jersey, scoop-neck tee with the same design as the short-sleeve version but boasting a red-orange and black colorway.
Get ready for FNO, gals — there are tons of not-to-miss events, and we'll be bringing you a list of stops you must make before the evening ends, so stay tuned!
