You don't have to dress like a Mouseketeer or place an oversize red bow with white polka dots atop your head to show your appreciation for Mickey and Minnie. The latest collection from Disney Couture, a collaboration with fashion-forward, statement-making costume jewelry brand Mawi, conveys a childlike appreciation for the Magic Kingdom's most beloved rodent couple but it does so in a manner that's sophisticated and even edgy, never descending into childish territory.
An ode to Minnie Mouse, who too often pays second fiddle to her white glvoed beau, the Minnie Mawie collection combines the innocence of Disney Couture with the sleek and contemporary aesthetic of Mawi. Available at Karmaloop.com, the collection includes such funky designs as the Minnie x Mawi Gem Bracelet ($125 Karmaloop.com), pictured second from top, a 14K gold plated cuff with a domed, mirrored center and large faceted clear beads that jut out fom the top edge of this spheric shape to resemble mouse ears. Similarly, the Minnie x Mawi Crystal Ear Dome Ring ($75 at Karmaloop.com), shown last above features a rounded top surface to resemble the top of a cranium, with perfectly round ears covered in crystal studs standing at attention, making your finger look like it's wearing Mickey ears.
If you prefer daintier pieces, you'll appreciate the bevy of pearl designs, which incorporate either white, back, or magenta stones. The Minnie x Mawi Black Pearl Earrings ($40 at Karmaloop.com), pictured third from top, cover the lobe like your basic pearl studs but then they invert the matronly undertones of these pieces by incorporating black enamel ear shapes along the top arch of the rounded pearls and flaunting a chain-like golden trim along the periphery of the central circle. Our favorite style: the drop earrings pictured at top, which feature three leaf-shaped, faceted, magenta crystal studs at the top, a yellow gold-plated box chain strand dangling beneath the crystal clusters, and faceted black enamel Minnie silhouettes at the bottom.
