Back in April, we were swooning over the Studio-64-meets-Space-Odyssey feel of the glitter-covered Amanda Pearl "Vera" Clutch, part of her beloved, ever expanding Octo line, which consists of elegant, slim, vintage-flavored clutch purses in perfectly symmetrical octagonal shapes. Call it the seven-month itch, but we've now turned our wandering, style-hungry eyes to the newborn baby in the Octo lot: the Amanda Pearl "Cosima" Clutch ($1295 at AmandaPearl.com).
This festive clutch features a textured exterior, with a lace overlay stitched atop a honeysuckle pink moiré fabric. Hand-painted in a Baroque gold color, the lace overlay features a swooping floral pattern, with thick strips forming the outline of leaves and petal and, rounded patches shaped to resemble the fragrant hearts of these blooms, and gold tonal stitching to create a more detailed landscape. The rippled look of the moiré fabric recalls 19th century Parisian royal draperies, magnifying the antique feel of the piece, while the punchy, Caribbean-worthy color moves the piece into the modern era.
In addition to a retro, pillbox style, gold metal closure, the Cosima Clutch features a removable 43"-long, gold-plated chain strap and comes with a touch-up mirror for covert makeup checks and quickie touch-ups.
The origins of the clutch style's name can be traced to ancient Greece, where Cosima stands as the feminine version of Cosmo, which itself stands for order, beauty and harmony. In other words, it's a fitting name for a piece that harmoniously fuses together contemporary and vintage elements.
