For Brooklyn-based architecture and design collective Think Fabricate, the "big lights will inspire you" bit in the hook of Jay-Z and Alicia Keys' "Empire State of Mind" proved prophetic. After all, the latest addition to their "Not Your Mother's" furniture collection is a modern, wooden chest of drawers with a laminated depiction of New York City's majestic skyline (as shown above).
The new design adds a cosmopolitan edge to the "Not Your Mother's" collection, which itself was inspired by the notion of juxtaposing easily recognizable, iconic or historically relevant imagery against modern shapes and silhouettes, making sure to frame the visual references as one would a canvas or other work of art.
Made of lacquered ash wood and featuring a maple base and a lacquered black frame, this particular bureau measures 42" in height, 36" in width, and 21" in depth, and it features laminated drawer fronts in a honeysuckle pink color, with an intricate skyline inset positioned atop the first of the three drawers. Customers can modify the design by selecting other color options or by favoring mirrored, glass, or stone insets as opposed to the lacquered ones shown here.
With this treasure chest, you'll feel like quoting Nas, who famously said that "nothing's equivalent to the New York State of Mind."
